Chinese Engagement in Latin America: New Patterns and Challenges
This work, Evan Ellis' sixth full-length book, brings together the author's most important recent essays and analysis on the topic, assembled and published by the Interamerican Institute for Democracy (IID). It opens with an important exposition on the latest patterns and dynamics of PRC activities in the region, with a focus on the interaction between commercial activities, political engagement, influence, and military and security considerations. The work also contains detailled individual chapters on PRC activities in key individual countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, based on Dr. Ellis' research engagements to each, conversations with subject matter experts there, and supporting research. The book also has a section with Dr. Ellis' most important recent analyses on PRC engagement in the region by subject, including PRC space engagement in the region, and possible military imperatives for the PRC in the region in time of a major conflict with the West.
